THE PAUPERIZATION OF PROFESSORS IN VENEZUELAN PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES IN THE 21ST CENTURY

Abstract

In 1982, homologation standards were approved which, among other purposes, sought to ensure that the monthly income of the university professor was protected from the effects of inflation; for them, they had to make periodic adjustments after discussion with the Federation of the Association of University Professors of Venezuela. Starting in 2000, a series of actions were initiated by the government that were undermining the income of teachers. The homologation norms were unknown, the legitimate union representatives of the teachers were unknown, the economic rights acquired by the teachers were unknown. All these actions led the Venezuelan university professor to an economic situation that, prior to the year 2000, placed him as a middle class, the current situation that places him in a situation of extreme poverty.
