Digital larvae: Is technology a problem to be combated or a reality that requires understanding?

Abstract

The paper examines the intricate relationship between technology and human behavior, with a particular focus on younger generations. It underscores the dual nature of technology. While offering myriad advantages, it concurrently presents challenges such as addiction, social isolation, and mental health concerns. The concept of 'digital larvae' is introduced to characterize individuals who develop an excessive reliance on technological devices, thereby impacting their holistic development and social interactions. To address this issue, three ecosystems are proposed as strategic frameworks. These ecosystems emphasize the significance of open communication, education, collaboration, and the establishment of clear boundaries in technology utilization. The central argument posits that technology, in itself, is not the core issue, but rather the lack of equilibrium and its irresponsible application. Consequently, the paper advocates for the creation of an environment where technology serves as a beneficial tool rather than a detriment.
