Education today is facing countless changes and transformations and when referring to active citizenship and democratic participation it becomes evident that they point to a transdisciplinary education that leads to serve society in general and additionally seeks new ways to bring knowledge in an effective and efficient way; promoting critical skills that contribute to improve the conditions of quality education and it is from there where the objective of the theoretical approach emerges as it is: to reflect on the role of active citizenship and democratic participation as principles of a transdisciplinary education in Colombian basic education in times of technological changes. The methodology applied responds to a documentary analysis which is reflected in a scientific essay that becomes a highly significant contribution for teachers who serve students in their classrooms on a daily basis, seeking to acquire the necessary knowledge and relevant skills so that active citizenship and democratic participation can be fostered. It is important to point out that the results show that a good cultivation of values and principles can help students develop better in their environment and at the same time take advantage of knowledge for their academic performance. It is worth mentioning that a reflection was achieved in a transdisciplinary education that includes active citizenship and democratic participation in its pedagogical action, aiming at a quality teaching model.
