Theoretical complexus of motivational leadership: a review of its epistemological foundation in the public university context

Management in public universities faces theoretical fragmentation regarding leadership and its real impact on motivation. This article presents the results of an academic review aiming to analyze the state of the art on educational leadership to identify the epistemic gap that justifies a new theoretical proposal. The methodology used was a documentary analysis, reviewing international and national research on transformational, disruptive, and humanistic leadership. Among the theories supporting the analysis are the approaches of Bass and Avolio (leadership), Maslow and Herzberg (motivation), and Morin's epistemology of complexity. The results show that, although studies connect leadership with quality, they overlook the articulation of motivational mechanisms in the specific context of the public university. It is concluded that an epistemic gap exists, demanding the construction of an integrating "Theoretical Complexus" that articulates the dimensions of leadership as a key motivational tool.
