Emotional intelligence is the ability to recognize, understand and manage our own emotions, and therefore, to understand the emotions of others. For Goleman, social-affective skills are essential to achieve success in personal and professional life, and these can be taught, strengthened and developed through the teaching-learning process in classrooms and school spaces.Social-affective development is a fundamental component in the integral formation of students, especially in rural contexts. This article explores from a descriptive methodological approach the challenges and opportunities that students have focused specifically on rural secondary education and in this sense there are problems in these environments with a context-specific conditions, people learn through observation and interaction with their social environment, from this perspective is of great importance the role played by models, imitation and social experience in learning behaviors and skills, where it is essential for families and educational institutions to strengthen in students appropriate behaviors for their socio-affective development.
