INNOVATIVE STRATEGIES FOR READING MUSIC THROUGH MEANINGFUL LEARNING

The present article is derived from the research work carried out in 2022, within the Master’s in Intercultural Education at the “Universidad Nacional Abierta y a Distancia Unad,” titled: “Innovative Strategies for Reading Music through Meaningful Learning.” The research problem formulated was: “Is it possible to learn to play musical instruments through peer observation and innovative didactic strategies?” The objective of the research was to investigate strategies that can be implemented so that students may read music in a meaningful way and play musical instruments through the skills provided. The study used a qualitative research approach, applying the phenomenological method to understand the lived experiences of the participants, using interviews and peer observation as techniques. Additionally, surveys were employed as a data collection tool. The results or findings are the product of analyzing the information gathered through the selected instruments to understand the students’ perceptions when approaching a musical instrument through sheet music. The students expressed fear when beginning with this methodology; however, through peer observation, it was possible to analyze the abilities developed when sharing with classmates. Finally, with the “points and lines” methodology, students were able to read music more accurately. As findings, it was observed that students greatly enjoyed the activities involving musical instrument performance and the designed strategies. In conclusion, it can be affirmed that it is indeed possible to play musical instruments through different motivating strategies other than conventional sheet music. These outcomes were also demonstrated through various events held at the educational institution.
