Abstract

Given the growing global challenges surrounding children's emotional management, this article underscores the urgent need for Colombian schools, and especially teachers, to assume a leading role in comprehensive education. Socio-emotional development in the 21st century demands innovative pedagogies and classroom environments rich in tools that integrate cognitive and emotional skills. Drawing on authors such as Goleman and supported by recent research, the article highlights the essential connection between emotional well-being, academic performance, and school well-being. In line with UNESCO's guidelines on holistic education ("learning to be and live together"), it argues that teacher training must go beyond academics. Teachers must acquire and share strategies that enable students to develop self-reflection, emotional self-management, and responsible decision-making, thus modeling healthy relationships. Finally, the article emphasizes that Latin American challenges require a conscious pedagogy that, following Morin, promotes relevant knowledge and inclusive educational environments. This entails teacher self-training as an essential ethical and pedagogical duty to foster generations capable of facing their context with responsibility and well-being.
