Discursive memory in Eduardo Sanabria's caricatures from the perspective of Michel Pecheux

The production of caricatures is commonly associated with contents whose aim is to criticize an aspect of a given socio-political context. The purpose of this study is to analyze the discursive memory present in five sketches on migration by Eduardo Sanabria from the theoretical perspective of the French line of discourse analysis, based on the contributions of Michel Pêcheux. In order to do so, a corpus of cartoons posted on October 2020 in the official Twitter account of the cartoonist Eduardo Sanabria was considered, using as a selection criterion the context of the socio-political crisis in Venezuela (production conditions). The interpretations made denote the existence of a discursive memory framed in the Venezuelan migration as a consequence of the socio-political situation in the country. Each caricature represents the author's critical position towards the government of President Nicolás Maduro, considering him as the cause of the Venezuelan migratory process.
