Abstract

Learning in Colombia and in the current world is mediated by socioemotional skills that allow people to understand, express, and regulate their axiological components. This aspect of human development and the construction of social fabric provides the opportunity to perform adequately in the different contexts of daily life, which include the fields of basic, secondary, technical, and professional education. Socioemotional competencies are a fundamental axis in the comprehensive development of the student. Education is more than the acquisition of knowledge; it is about learning to coexist and communicate, fostering self-control through the strengthening of emotions, which are key to performing in personal and professional life. In this article, a systematic review was conducted on the influence of socioemotional competencies in teaching and learning processes in middle school students, identifying their impact on academic performance, school coexistence, and emotional well-being. This was based on an analysis of 6 articles from the last five years that have scientific relevance and are published in accredited journals for this purpose. The goal was to contrast and examine the authors' opinions to create a personal judgment about socioemotional competencies and how they influence the educational field. According to the above, it was determined that the regulation of emotions allows for a significant improvement in teaching and learning processes, increasing attention, concentration, and motivation, thereby achieving a comprehensive and meaningful education for students.
