Abstract

Ethical education in higher education is a cornerstone for the integral development of students and the consolidation of more just and democratic societies. In the current context, characterized by the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) and accelerated social transformation, unprecedented challenges emerge that demand a rethinking of pedagogical approaches to ethics. This article analyzes the importance of ethical formation in higher education, the challenges posed by emerging technologies, and its relevance in the Latin American context, where structural issues such as inequality, corruption, and institutional fragility persist. Based on a documentary review conducted between 2021 and 2025, the study identifies the main ethical dilemmas associated with the incorporation of AI into educational processes: academic integrity, algorithmic bias, digital citizenship, and social justice. The discussion includes comparative experiences from universities in Latin America and Europe, as Weill as proposals from international organizations such as UNESCO and OEI. Furthermore, it suggests pedagogical and institutional strategies including the curricular mainstreaming of ethics, authentic assessment, teacher training in digital ethics, and the establishment of institutional codes for the responsible use of AI. The article concludes that artificial intelligence does not replace ethical reflection; rather, it intensifies it, requiring universities to play an active role in fostering critical, responsible, and solidarity-based citizenship.
