Abstract

Executive capacities constitute the cognitive abilities to enrich the comprehensive education and cognitive development of students. This literature review examines Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a support tool for teachers in the development and strengthening of executive capacities in the educational environment. Through a literature review, published research and books were analyzed, using databases of scientific publications. The methodology used consisted of a qualitative content analysis; a narrative investigation was applied where the applications of AI in the classroom were systematically identified and categorized, with an emphasis on their impact on pedagogical practices aimed at the development of executive capacities. The selection criteria prioritized studies that specifically addressed the intersection between AI and the development of executive capacities in educational settings, the personalization of learning through technological tools, and the role of the teacher in the implementation of these pedagogical innovations. The results reveal that the implementation of AI systems in the classroom allows teachers to establish scaffolding for executive capacities, personalizing learning and simultaneously attending to students with different needs.Three main applications were identified: adaptive tutoring systems that support self-regulation and planning, virtual assistants that facilitate individualized monitoring of the improvement of working memory and inhibitory control, and behavioral analysis platforms that allow teachers to identify and address difficulties in executive functions early on. The conclusions suggest that AI can act as a "virtual pedagogical assistant," allowing teachers to dedicate time to the personalized care of students with needs, while maintaining effective monitoring of the group. This study proposes an implementation model that integrates AI as a complementary tool, preserving the teacher's role as a facilitator of the development of executive capacities.
