SCHOOL FOR PARENTS: SEXUALITY IN ADOLESCENTS

Abstract

Sexuality is a central aspect of human development. For decades, it has been assumed to be that part of life that corresponds to reproduction; this partial and reductionist view of the topic must be overcome and addressed from an approach that integrates different dimensions of humankind, where different variables intervene, such as parents. This makes it a highly complex and sensitive topic due to its taboo nature. Therefore, this essay-style article is presented, the purpose of which is to interpret the role of the family as a fundamental space for reflection for the responsible and positive support of adolescents regarding issues of sexuality. A theoretical review based on the interpretive paradigm was conducted, with a qualitative approach that allowed us to argue how parents, as natural socializers, create spaces for comprehensive, effective, and cultural sexuality education aimed at the holistic development of their children. Methodologically, the article is based on the hermeneutic method, which offers an interpretative process of deep understanding of the experiences, beliefs, and realities surrounding the topic of adolescent sexuality. That is, to consider this topic not only as a biological fact, but from multiple dimensions of human biopsychosocial development. Finally, it presents a critical analysis that overcomes preconceptions and facilitates a more open and                              humane understanding.
