Abstract

This article analyzed the strategic role that rural school management can play in the local implementation of the 2030 Global Environmental and Social Agenda, considered a global roadmap toward sustainable development. The current environmental emergency demands coordinated responses from multiple sectors, with education being one of the most influential due to its capacity for social transformation. The main objective is to demonstrate how school management can become a platform for promoting sustainability through pedagogical, organizational, and community actions. A qualitative, documentary-based methodology with a reflective-critical approach was adopted. Based on an extensive review of national and international sources, theoretical approaches were analyzed to reframe the role of the school in rural contexts in the face of socio-environmental challenges. The main findings reveal that, although there have been institutional advances, significant gaps remain in curriculum integration, funding for environmental projects, and specialized teacher training. Despite these limitations, educational experiences were identified that demonstrate the school’s transformative potential as a space for community ecological action. It is concluded that school management must adopt a comprehensive approach committed to its environment, promoting the mainstreaming of sustainability in the curriculum, pedagogical leadership, and active community participation as essential conditions for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
