Abstract

Childhood identity is not formed in isolation but through ongoing interaction with social, cultural, and emotional environments. This essay explores identity as a dynamic and relational process deeply rooted in everyday pedagogical practices. From a humanistic and critical perspective, it examines how the school, family, and community serve as key spaces in shaping children’s sense of belonging and ethical development. Drawing on theoretical frameworks and educational experiences in Latin American contexts, the text reflects on the educator’s role as a bridge-builder who nurtures children’s uniqueness while anchoring them in collective values. The school, as a space of encounter, should not be confined to the transmission of knowledge. Instead, it must be a place where children’s voices, stories, and cultures are acknowledged and valued. Identity is woven together with respect, participation, and memory; thus, fostering a situated pedagogy means creating opportunities for each child to be seen not through uniformity, but through their singular richness. The essay concludes that meaningful education goes beyond academic content: it strengthens rootedness, mutual care, and active citizenship from early childhood.
