Abstract

The Colombian Political Constitution of 1991, education is established as a fundamental right for the integral development of citizens, which implies recognizing it as a means to achieve social equity and the progress of a country. For its part, the Ministry of National Education seeks to guarantee the quality and coverage of education by promoting policies and programs that allow for the improvement of the processes of the educational system. One of them is the Todos A Aprender Program, which emphasizes reading processes in the first grades of the primary level in order to improve academic results in reading and writing. Reading difficulties are very common in classrooms, as students show poor academic performance, which is more evident in the Spanish language area. This article seeks to study the relationship between saccadic movements that allow rapid gaze fixation from one point to another, which are essential for an effective reading process at the levels of language development and academic performance in children in the first grade of primary school. To this end, the following general objective was established: To study whether there is a relationship between saccadic movements, reading processes and academic performance in first-grade children in the rural area of the municipality of El Peñón, Santander. A descriptive, non-experimental and correlational methodology was established, for which the K-D test of saccadic movements and the PLON-R test were used in a sample of 30 students. After the results obtained, it is concluded with the direct relationship established between vision difficulties and academic performance results.
