Abstract

The influence of social media on the academic performance of primary school students in Colombian education is a highly relevant topic, given the increasing use of these digital platforms among school-aged children. Various studies and analyses suggest that, while social media can offer benefits in terms of communication and collaboration, they also pose risks that can negatively affect academic performance. In this regard, the general objective is to recognize the influence that social media exerts on the development of academic performance in the current educational situation in Colombia. As a result, it is noted that excessive or inappropriate use of social media can distract students, reduce their time spent on schoolwork, and diminish their concentration on academic activities. Exposure to inappropriate content or participation in negative interactions can also affect their emotional well-being and academic performance. In the Colombian context, where challenges related to digital inequality and limited access to technology still exist in some rural or vulnerable regions, these effects may be even more pronounced.
