Abstract

Social media has revolutionized the way young people interact and communicate, having a profound impact on their emotional lives. On the one hand, these platforms facilitate constant connection with friends and family, allowing young people to maintain emotional ties even from a distance. The ability to share experiences, thoughts, and feelings in real time can strengthen their sense of belonging and provide them with emotional support in times of difficulty. More broadly, this article aims to analyze the influence of social media on young people's emotional lives. However, this same digital environment also presents risks that negatively affect young people's emotional stability. Constant exposure to idealized images and seemingly perfect lives can generate feelings of insecurity, jealousy, or dissatisfaction with their own reality. The social comparison that arises in these spaces can lower self-esteem and increase feelings of inadequacy or anxiety.
