Abstract

Reading instruction is presented as a key tool in the development of environmental awareness, since, through relevant and meaningful texts, students can acquire knowledge about ecological issues and sustainability. By exploring a variety of literary genres, such as articles, short stories, essays, and informational texts that address environmental topics, students not only improve their reading comprehension but also broaden their understanding of the interconnectedness between human beings and the environment. This connection allows them to relate theory to practice, promoting a critical and responsible attitude toward the ecological challenges facing their communities. For this reason, this essay is based on a qualitative, interpretive, and hermeneutic perspective, with the general objective of analyzing the impact of the environmental perspective on the development of the reading process. As a result, students not only acquire theoretical knowledge but also develop practical skills and a sense of agency to address local issues. This integrated approach fosters the development of engaged citizens, capable of acting and advocating for a more sustainable environment, making reading a catalyst for positive change in their communities.
