The objective of this essay was to characterize the forms of knowledge conversion in basic and secondary education institutions in Colombia. In this regard, the need to address this issue was identified, since during the research process, various observed activities showed that the dynamic interaction between tacit and explicit knowledge was almost nonexistent, which limits the creation of organizational knowledge and, consequently, the effective management required to build new knowledge. The methodology employed focused on an analytical and reflective study, centered on the conditions observed from praxis, in order to generate results aligned with the current social reality and its implications for institutional progress. According to the findings, knowledge is not adequately formalized through documentation, databases are rudimentary, and the use of new information technologies for storing such knowledge is not being leveraged. As a final reflection, processes of change and innovation in teaching work are evident. Teachers use explicit knowledge acquired in meetings, oral accounts, or some documents to improve their classroom practices. This facilitates the expansion, extension, and reformulation of their own tacit knowledge.
