Abstract

This academic essay analyzes the problem of behavioral smartphone addiction in the classroom and its effects on learning processes. The methodology employed consisted of a qualitative documentary review of empirical studies, meta-analyses, reports from international organizations, and governmental regulations. The results obtained indicate that smartphone addiction presents a negative correlation with academic Likewise, it was identified that 97% of United States students aged 11 to 17 use their phones during the school day, with an average of 43 minutes per day dedicated to non-academic activities. Globally, 79 educational systems have introduced restrictions on phone use in schools. In Latin America, Brazil and Chile adopted national prohibitions, while Colombia opted to transfer to educational institutions the responsibility of regulating the pedagogical use of devices. The essay's conclusions confirm that smartphone addiction deteriorates sustained attention capacity, decreases academic performance, and alters the relational dynamic between students and teachers. A multifaceted approach is required that combines institutional restriction policies, pedagogical awareness interventions, and family regulation of screen time.
