Chess, as a sport and a science, is an educational tool for the integral development of students, with notable effects on academic performance and socialization. Through a documentary analysis based on the proposals of Dewey and Piaget, as well as empirical and theoretical research, it is shown that chess enhances transcendental cognitive abilities such as logical-mathematical thinking, memory, concentration, and problem-solving. These mental processes, when applied to other areas of knowledge, contribute to a significant improvement in academic performance, with some studies reporting an increase of up to 60% in subjects such as Mathematics, as well as a positive impact on the social environment. Findings suggest that playing chess fosters the development of skills such as understanding rules, managing complex situations, empathy, and interpersonal communication. The dual nature of chess, which combines competition with group interaction, creates a favorable environment for socialization and reduces disruptive behaviors. In conclusion, it is evident that incorporating chess into the curriculum is an effective strategy for comprehensive development. The game not only boosts academic performance by enhancing cognitive skills but also serves as a key promoter of socialization and the development of essential life competencies in society. In summary, this highlights the need for educational policies that promote initiatives recognizing chess as a valuable pedagogical resource in the comprehensive education of students.
